Lil Red and Converse

I used to wear a pair of blue Converse back in college. And it has served me well for 3 years. I lost interest using it since I started working though. Ya know, in a corporate world, rugged shoes is a big no-no. And so I shifted from sneakers to high-heeled boots and formal/closed shoes.

When I went back to Legazpi and decided to stay here, I saw my old pairs of shoes including the rotten converse. Suddenly I wanted to wear it again, but because of its condition, I decided to just get a new pair. And then I saw this:

white and red converse

It’s a white converse highlighted in red, with Little Red Riding Hood drawing. It was a design created by Camilla Engman. She said she picked Red Riding Hood because of ‘her pluck and bravery, her warmth and kindness, and her iconic familiarity‘.

It was said to be part of the Converse Red Program - a program established by BONO of U2. Its goal is to help reduce the effects of AIDS, Malaria and Tubercolosis in Africa. Camilla’s design was selected amongst other 100 artists simply because it does not interfere with Converse’s design. And the work is really amazing. It’s white and is very simple.

Now, I am not sure if it will be manufactured soon. Or will it ever reach the Asian market and the Philippines. Basta, I want one.

i had a pair of grey converse that i wore for many years as well. now that i work on publishing i can probably still wear converse, but i choose more “grown-up” shoes, at least for work.

that special converse design is really very cute, i have to say. makes me feel like putting on my grey converse and feeling like a kid again.

Wow Camilla, well done! I do hope they manufacture them - I’d love to wear a pair of Red Riding Hood Converse shoes.
